Mary Leary

Mary joined Mather as Chief Executive Officer/President in 2002. Previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Classic Residence by Hyatt and has held other executive positions in senior living, health care, and long-term care. Currently a member of the Executive Board of American Seniors Housing Association, Operator Advisory Board of the National Investment Center, and serves as Chair of the Risk Committee and member of the Personnel and Compensation Committee of Caring Communities, a Reciprocal Risk Retention Group. Is a founding member of and chairs Novare, a consortium of Life Plan Community providers. Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Health Services Administration from Cornell University and Master’s Degree in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University.

Mather LifeWays served 43,000+ older adults in 2016 through development and operation of senior living communities; provision of community-based services; and identification, implementation, and sharing of wellness and workforce “next” practices through Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging (MLIA). MLIA workforce programs have been implemented in all 50 states and by Fortune 100 Companies in 12 countries. MLIA serves as Managing Editor for Seniors Housing & Care Journal and oversees InvestigAge, an industry database of research impacting senior housing/services for older adults with audiences including providers, professionals, researchers, and industry stakeholders. Mather LifeWays led the development and implementation of the first national survey of family members of residents living in Life Plan Communities, which received the 2012 Prudential Real Estate Award for Best Research Paper. MLIA was honored with the 2014 Excellence in Research and Education Award from LeadingAge.
