Philippa Hunter-Jones

Philippa (Pippa) Hunter-Jones holds a Chair in Marketing in the University of Liverpool Management School. She is also the Head of the Marketing Subject Group. She began her career studying Hospitality Management and Related Services, working in both different hospitality contexts and volunteering within healthcare environments too. She completed an MSc by Research examining Sustainable Tourism in Spain before going on to complete her PhD with a specialist cancer hospital in the UK. This research helped to develop multiple strands of activity linked to the patient experience, service systems and service (re) design. She collaborates with academics and practitioners on projects linked to primary care, acute care, care homes and palliative and end-of-life care. This work includes both physical and mental wellbeing. Alongside this, she has a wider interest in the consumer behaviour of vulnerable, marginalised, stigmatized and hidden consumers and in exploring the circumstances of those who travel with pre-existing conditions.

She has recently completed three terms of office (elected Governor) with Alder Hey Children’s NHS Trust Hospital in the UK where she chaired the Membership Strategy Committee. She has published in a wide range of journals including Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Service Research, Social Science and Medicine, Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Management Reviews and the Journal of Travel Medicine.
