The CIHF Visiting Scholars are faculty members at universities other than Cornell University who are currently visiting CIHF to collaborate in research projects, educational activities or industry events that link hospitality, health, and design.

CIHF welcomes Visiting Scholars who conduct research studies supported by the institute.

Hae-Ryong Kim is a professor of marketing at the College of International Business, Division of Business & Economics at Konkuk University, GLOCAL Campus, in Chungju, Korea. His teaching focus is service marketing, consumer behavior, and marketing communications. As a visiting scholar, Dr. Kim is researching the impact of environmental practices on consumers’ moral emotions, the effects of green practices and the role of corporate responsibility to enhance consumer / employee performance in service industries, green behavior in the hotel industry. Dr. Kim has a Ph.D in Marketing at Yonsei University.

Jiyoung Kim is a professional lecturer of marketing at the School of Business, Younsei University in Seoul, Korea. She teaches marketing management in the MBA Program and courses including Principal of Marketing, Marketing Research, and Consumer Behavior. Dr. Kim’s research at CIHF focuses on customer experience, customer value co-creation, sustainability-related service marketing, and frontline service employees. She received her Ph.D in Marketing at Yonsei University.

Zongwei Li, is an assistant professor Shanghai University of Science and Engineering, teaches curriculum design and undergraduate courses in data analysis. As a visiting scholar, Dr. Li’s research focuses on ‘Hospitality Management under Internet Environment’ and e-commerce in China. Dr. Li received a Ph.D. in Management from Tongji University and an M.S. in System Management and Analysis from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

Giovanni Sogari

MSc in Food Science and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics. Currently, he is a visiting Fellow at Cornell
University and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Parma. Since 2017 he has been granted
with a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow and he will spend two years at Cornell University, under the
supervision of Prof. Miguel Gomez and Rohit Verma and 12 month return phase at the University of
Parma, under the supervision of Prof. Cristina Mora. The objective of his project “CONSUMEHealth.
Using consumer science to improve healthy eating habits” is to understand what drives consumers to
make healthier food choices and provide evidence-based recommendations for stakeholders and policy
makers.

His other main research interests are in consumers behavior about healthy diet, fruit and vegetable
consumption, Geographical Indications, GMOs, wine market, sustainability in the fish industry, novel
food and edible insects.

Lina Zhong has a Ph. D in Human Geography from the College of Urban and Environmental Science, Peking University in China. She completed her doctoral studies at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. She has 14 years of experience in extensive research and consultancy experiences both in mainland China and Hong Kong. She has a broad-based interdisciplinary training in human geography , city planning, destination planning, and recreational design with particular expertise in regional planning focus on tourism development and recreational design. She has over 40 projects on regional and tourism planning in China, Including tourism planning for Great Wall and Hangzhou City.

As a Visiting Professor, Lina is analyzing attributes and market of wellness tourism, particularly in China, within a big data based method.

Alessandra Cappai

Alessandra Cappai has a Ph.D. in Urbanism from the School of Architecture of Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Spain, where she is also a member of the Institut Habitatge-Territori-Turisme.  She completed her doctoral studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design as a visiting student. Her education and professional experience are transversal to the fields of engineering, architecture, and urbanism.  She has been the principal investigator collaborating in several research projects in Spain and Italy focused on the relationship between architecture, urbanism, and tourism development.

As a CIHF Visiting Scholar, Alessandra is analyzing case studies and best practices in health hospitality, particularly in Italy and Spain, focused on health and wellness in association with natural surroundings and design strategies.

Marival Segarra-Oña

Marival Segarra-Oña is an associate professor of Innovation and Competitiveness at the Business School at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). Dr. Segarra holds a PhD in management and BS degrees in industrial engineering and mechanical engineering. Professor Segarra was a visiting scholar at the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University in 2011-2012, where she became a research associate. She has also been a visiting scholar at Bath University, UK, and now is collaborating with the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures.

Her research interests include sustainability, eco-innovation management, and social innovation. Her teaching interests are in strategy and innovation management. She was a member of the Jury of the 40th Anniversary contest of Sustainable Innovations of the European Patent Office in 2013. Her work has been published in numerous journals including Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, Journal of Cleaner Production, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, and Science and Engineering Ethics. Dr. Segarra has served as an associate editor of the special issue on sustainability at the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly.
