Byron Keating

Byron Keating, Ph.D. is a Professor of Service Management and Technology in the QUT Business School at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He is also the Managing Director of the Service Innovation Lab, a service-focused management and research consultancy based in Brisbane and Canberra. His current research is focused on the technological transformation of service systems to promote improved wellbeing for vulnerable consumers. Recent examples of his work in this area include projects exploring new digital models of employment support for people with disability; detection and response to suicide risk in public places; engaging bystanders to reduce the impact of cyberabuse; and designing public transport systems to deter harassment of female users. Papers related to this work have been published in leading technology and business journals, including Proceedings of the IEEE, European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Service Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, and the Journal of Business Research. This work has also been supported by more than $20 million in competitive grants and acknowledged by numerous awards, including an Endeavour Fellowship to work with the National University of Singapore to examine the impact of ethics within service supply chains, and more recently, an Australian Research Council Linkage Industry Fellowship to examine service experience within non-commercial consumption settings.
